Commonly asked Questions
and Answers
For
New Anahata Yoga School Students
1. What should I wear?
Please wear loose comfortable clothing (no belts, buckles or zippers),
dress in layers. Eat lightly or not at all at least an hour before
class.
2. What should I bring?
A "sticky" (yoga) mat is required for safety and hygiene.
We have them available for rent or purchase. You may also want to
bring a bottle of water and/or a towel.
3. How do I begin as a new student to yoga?
All new students to AYS begin with the Introductory Class Package
for $19.95, including 2 classes and a mat rental. These Introductory/Beginner
Classes are specially designed for students new to yoga. All new
students to AYS (whether experienced or not) begin with our "Introductory
Class Package."
For Beginners:
We offer specially designed classes for new students to yoga. You
will:
a) learn the basic yoga vocabulary, principles, postures and breathing
techniques.
b) start your practice with a solid foundation to prepare to enter
beginners classes.
c) get to know the AYS staff and facility
d) be in a classroom with other students brand new to yoga.
For Experienced Students:
As a more experienced student you are eligible for the introductory
package rate - 2 classes with free mat rental for $19.95 (as opposed
to the single class rate of $16). A staff person will help you to
determine which 2 classes would best suit your experience level
and interest.
4. What if I am an experienced yoga student?
The Introductory Package is available to you, but you are not limited
to attending the Beginner Classes. An AYS staff member will assist
you in determining which classes to attend and what your best enrollment
options are.
5. When do the Beginner Classes take place?
When you call for information you will be provided with the class
times and dates, or you can check out our shcedule.
6. How do I continue after the Beginner Classes?
A general guideline is to practice at the beginners
level for a minimum of 3 - 6 months. We recommend that students
attend class twice weekly to benefit the most from the practice.
At AYS, you are not enrolling for (or locked into) a particular
class, day and time. You may come to any beginner level classes.
7. How do I enroll?
We offer several enrollment options. Upon completion of your Introductory
Classes, a staff member will help you determine what your best choices
are and take you through the enrollment process.
8. Where do I park?
We have a very small lot directly in front of our building. There
is ample free parking on the West Side of Nashua Street (across
the street).
9. What kind of yoga will I be learning?
All the various types of yoga you may have heard of are a form of
hatha yoga practice of postures and breathwork. AYS Introduction
Beginner Classes and Beginners programs are based on the Amrit Yoga
method which combines hatha yoga (physical practices) with raja
yoga (meditative awareness). This system facilitates greater integration
and healing on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels
expanding the impact of your practice both on and off the yoga mat.
10. What are some of the benefits of a regular yoga practice?
Yoga is a holistic therapy that simultaneously:
Improves muscle tone and flexibility
Increases range of movement
Relieves physical tension
Reduces emotional/mental stress
Reduces or eliminates back pain
Normalizes blood pressure
Steadies the metabolism
Purifies the nervous system
